Grand Theater is re-opening on Friday, June 26

(from the Grand Theater)
Finally, after 14+ weeks of being closed, the Grand Theater will once again light the marquee, fire up the popcorn popper, and welcome our community back to the movies!

In mid-March the Grand Theater, along with all other theaters in Iowa, was ordered to close by Governor Reynolds to stem the spread of COVID-19. During the mandated shutdown, the theater has undertaken some facility improvements, maintenance projects, and implemented new policies and procedures to safely welcome back our patrons.

Several things will be different, including: social distancing while in line for tickets and concessions; one-way traffic into and out of both auditoriums; every other row of seats blocked off and at least three empty seats to the left and right of each individual/party; single use restrooms; multiple hand sanitizing stations; face masks on staff and volunteers; and more frequent cleaning and disinfecting. Full details can be found at our website:

New movie titles won’t be available until at least mid-July, so we’ll be showing some older films as well as films that came out within the past year. For the time being we will be open just four days each week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Also, more matinees but no late shows on weekends.

The first two films, playing June 26th – July 1st are THE WAY BACK (drama/sports, rated R) starring Ben Affleck and for kids of all ages, THE GOONIES (adventure/comedy/family, rated PG) that was first released in 1985!
