The Twin Cedars varsity softball team started off the season with an 11-0 home victory over Murray.
Pitcher Grace Bailey went four innings with five strikeouts and only four hits. She helped her cause at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and a double.
The Sabers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Leadoff batter Rylee Dunkin smacked a single to left, as did Ali Mockenhaupt. Bailey hit the double and scored both runners. Chloe Swank drove her home with another single.
Chloe Durian took a walk, followed by an single from Jetta Sterner. Kaya DesPlanque hit a sacrifice fly to bring everyone home.
In the second, Brooke Roby hit a double to center. Bailey drove her home with a shot up the middle two batters later. Swank reached on an error. Caitlyn Reed reached on a fielder’s choice that also scored Bailey to bring the score to 8-0 in favor of Twin Cedars.
Roby hit a triple to right over every fielder’s head in the third. She was able to score on a passed ball for a 9-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Sabers sealed their victory with a two-run homer over the left field fence by Reed.
Head Coach Zach Dunkin believes Bailey pitched very well. She attacked the strike zone from the start.
“I was happy with our approach at the plate, too,” Dunkin added. “Everyone in the box got excited to hit. Rylee Dunkin got us going with a single and two stolen bases. Brooke Roby moved runners. Everyone contributed!”
