The Pella High Lady Dutch will hit the field Monday, June 15. Though the team has only one senior, Head Coach Teresa Thompson says the team will be ready.

“We were young last year as well,” Thompson said. With 31 girls in the program this season, there is much talent available to take the field.

The lone senior is Courtney Thompson, who comes back to play second base to lead the infield, as well as the dugout. She is a solid player, according to the Coach, ready to work with the freshmen and sophomores.

Coach Thompson says the team has been glad to work together offensively, defensively, in the practices they have been able to enjoy thus far. They have been working hard and are ready to help the eighth grade students work into the program. Pella will field JV-1, JV-2 and varsity teams this year.

The varsity team currently has 20 games on its schedule. The Little Hawkeye Conference will once again be tough, but Coach Thompson believes her team is ready to produce some exciting softball this season.

“I just think it’ll be an exciting season,” Thompson said. “We will grow, be strong and continue to get better.”

The Lady Dutch season opens Monday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. at home against Grinnell.
