The Twin Cedars varsity girls’ basketball team finished its season with a 5-18 mark, following a 58-24 loss at Lynnville-Sully in the opening round of the girls’ playoffs Friday night, Feb. 14.
In that game, Kaya DesPlanque – the lone senior on the TC squad – scored 11 points. Head Coach Trent Verwers says the team had L-S flustered in the first quarter with a 7-5 lead with two minutes to go. The lead evaporated and the Sabers were down by 13 points in the half.
“Lynnville-Sully is a tough, state-caliber team,” Verwers said. “We held our own for as long as we could.”
Brooke Roby led the Sabers in points this season, with 265 (according to the latest stats available). Chloe Swank had 190. DesPlanque led in assists with 29, followed by Roby with 27. Swank and Rylee Dunkin each had 24. In rebounds, Swank led with 97, with Roby and DesPlanque each with 93.
Congratulations to the Sabers on a fine season!
