In a hard-fought contest on the road Friday night, Feb. 7, the Pella Christian varsity boys’ basketball team fell just short of defeating Dallas Center-Grimes, 50-48.
The Eagles jumped out to a 14-9 lead after the first quarter, but went into the half down 21-20. They came back in the third to score 10 more to the Mustangs’ 13 before the teams ended the fourth in a 40-40 tie.
Dallas Center-Grimes slipped through the first overtime with 10 points to the Eagles’ eight to take the game. Josh Van Gorp scored 16 for the Eagles, with eight rebounds and a steal. Jack Vermeer and Keean Cadwell each scored 11. Vermeer also had two assists. Ryan Vande Haar led in assists with six and two blocks.
The Eagles host Newton Feb. 11 and then travel to Oskaloosa on Thursday, Feb. 13.
