A strong comeback attempt was made in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s Pella Christian varsity boys’ basketball game against Grinnell, but they fell just short of the Tigers 74-72.
Grinnell jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the first quarter, first putting the Eagles behind the eight ball. Pella Christian fought back in the second, scoring 15 to Grinnell’s 18 to go into the half behind 38-22.
The Eagles put together an outstanding offensive second half, outscoring the Tigers 50-36, but alas, it was not enough.
Josh Van Gorp led the Eagles with 18 points and six rebounds. Dan Jungling, who committed this week to play football at Dordt College next year, scored 17 with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Eagles travel to take on Dallas Center-Grimes Friday night, Feb. 7, before hosting Newton on Feb. 11. The regular season for the Eagles is tentatively set to end on Feb. 13 at Oskaloosa.
