In a tight game Jan. 21, the Knoxville Panther varsity girls’ basketball team held off a talented Pella High Lady Dutch team to win on the road, 35-32.

The Panthers jumped out to a 12-10 lead after the first quarter. Defense was the name of the game for both teams in the second, as neither team reached double digits. The score was 19-13 at the half.

In the third, the Lady Dutch kept pace with the Panthers, scoring nine to Knoxville’s 10. The fourth belonged to the Lady Dutch, who scored 10 to Knoxville’s six, but the Panther lead was just too much.

Tara Uitermarkt had 10 of the Panthers’ 34 rebounds. Leading scorers were again Katie Keitges (15) and Maggie Wilkins (13). Keitges also led Knoxville in assists with three and steals with five.

For the Lady Dutch, freshman Jasmine Namminga had an outstanding game by leading the team with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Reagan Van Wyk had nine points and six rebounds.
