Coal Ridge Church will reopen in January for Saturday evening services. The church is the last remnant of the old town of Coal Ridge, and is located at 1034 Highway S-71 (take the entrance of Whitebreast Campground).
Todd Rowland will lead the services, which will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday night. Services will be more contemporary, with the church returning to its traditional services in the summer.
Rowland is back from Nebraska, and is bringing the services back by popular demand. Many people have told him how much they enjoy the services, and the atmosphere of the church.
Coal Ridge Church was built in 1909 and remains a special place. Another 5K fundraiser is planned for Saturday, April 4, at 9 a.m. The wheel barrow race will be back again, beginning at 10 a.m. To sign up, visit the church’s website.
Proceeds from future fundraisers will be used to install a bathroom and air conditioning – all within the guidelines that will allow the church to maintain its status on the National Register of Historic Places. The bathroom will not be attached to the building and will be handicap accessible.
