The Knoxville Panther varsity wrestling team defeated Central Decatur 51-27 and Clarke 60-24 on their home mat Thursday night. However, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont was able to pull out a win over the Panthers 47-32.
Knoxville had to forfeit at 106 vs. Central Decatur before winning the next six weights. Marco Alejo (113), Luke Spaur (120), Hayden Hatch (126), Gabe Gordon (132), JJ Beaver (138) and Koby Gordon (145) each racked up wins. Nash Linsley (160), Ian Crossett (170) and Jared Landsperger (220) also added to the Knoxville win total.
The Panthers lost only one match by pinfall against Clarke. The three others were due to forfeit. Alejo, Spaur, Hatch, Gabe Gordon, Beaver, Koby Gordon, Linsley, Crossett, Wyatt Darnell and Landsperger each picked up victories.
In the dual against Eddyville, Linsley, Crossett, Darnell, Alejo, Hatch and Gabe Gordon each won their matches.
Going in to the winter break, the Panthers have scored 678 match points as a team. Spaur, a freshman, has amassed an 11-1 record and has scored 70 points – the most among all Panther wrestlers. Linsley (11-3) and Alejo (11-4) have each scored 63. Beaver (11-6) has scored 56, Koby Gordon (8-6) has 54, Gabe Gordon (8-3) has 44, Gavin Montalvo (8-1) has 43, Tristan DeJong (3-7) and Darnell (9-7) each have 41.
Hayden Hatch (7-4) has 36, Landsperger (3-5) has 32, Crossett (6-1) has 29, Sean Collins (5-5) has 28, Hollinrake (3-9) and Logan Clark each have 26, and three other wrestlers are in the single digits.
