The Knoxville High varsity boys’ basketball squad just missed winning its season opener by falling to PCM 48-45 Tuesday night.

Head Coach Jeff Larson says the Panthers did not play real well, but the team will get better.

“First game of the year, we have a lot to build on,” he said. One of the highlights for the Panthers Tuesday night was newcomer Spencer Hixson. Hixson led the Panthers with 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal. Reliable shooter Kieren Nichols had 16 for Knoxville, three rebounds and an assist.

Ben Olson, Keegan Cox and Luke Keitges each had five rebounds and Alex Eckert, seven.

The Panthers will be on the road at Clarke Tuesday night (Dec. 10).
