Knoxville’s Maddy Findley signed a letter of intent Nov. 15 to play softball at Indian Hills Community College.
Findley said she made the decision to commit to IHCC a month or two ago. One of her main reasons is because IHCC has its own softball field and the team did not have to share facilities in Ottumwa. She was also impressed with Coach Lindsey Deihl, who was in the KHS Media Center for Maddy’s signing.
Deihl said she was impressed with Findley the first time she spoke with the recruit. She could immediately tell Maddy was a good person, with a strong character who believes in winning with class.
She was also looking too keep power in her lineup. Maddy’s slugging percentage last season was .506.
Maddy has dealt with coaching changes through her KHS career. This will continue again for her final season. She believes this has helped her become a better player, by learning different perspectives.
Recruited as a third baseman, Maddy says she will play where needed – including first base and outfield. Being good at both corners provided more reason for Deihl to recruit her.
Dan Findley, Maddy’s father, added that Maddy has played for the Iowa Blitz, a USSSA Club team for the past six years. He is excited about Maddy’s signing with IHCC because it’s a great school with a great coach.
Deihl is a former coach at Clarke, which is where she first saw Maddy play. The Warriors continue to practice every day, year-round. Deihl is excited to see what the team can do when the season opens Feb. 8. Findley signs with IHCC softball
