Central stages winter softball clinics

PELLA—Central College will stage a series of winter youth softball skills clinics.

A clinic for players in grades 2-5 will be staged Saturday, Feb. 1 from 9 a.m.-noon. Sunday, Feb. 9 a clinic for players in grades 6-8 is set for 1-4 p.m. and a clinic for players in grades 9-12 will be Sunday, Feb. 16 from 1- 4 p.m.

Each clinic will be limited to 40 players. Cost is $50.

Clinics will include lectures with demonstrations of drills with current Central players. Baserunning, hitting, infield and catching defensive techniques and outfield play will be covered.

The clinics will be staged in H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse and will be led by Central head coach George Wares, associate head coach Alicia O’Brien and the rest of the Dutch softball staff. Wares is the winningest coach in NCAA Division III history with a 1,152-394-3 record (.745) in 35 seasons, with 30 NCAA tournament berths and four national championships.
