INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — Completing Saturday’s Indianapolis Monumental Marathon in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 38 seconds, former Central College distance runner Austin O’Brien ‘14 qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials

O’Brien was one of 10 men to qualify for the Olympic Trials by completing the race in under 2:19.00, the Olympic “B” standard. Nate Guthals of Olathe, Kansas was the top-male finisher in 2:17.51

An All-American in both track and field and cross country while at Central (2010-14), O’Brien was on the distance medley relay team that won a national championship at the 2014 Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. That relay squad set a meet record that still stands. He finished 11th as a senior at the 2013 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

The Olympic Trials are set for Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. The most recent list of qualified athletes included 182 possible entries for the marathon.
