The Pella High Little Dutch’s 2019 drive to the dome continues, after they defeated Independence at home 24-6 in the first round of football playoffs.

Aaron Downs led the offense again with 142 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Downs broke free for 39 yards for one of his scores. Nolan Clayberg rushed for 40 and Aidan Pollock 13.

Ryan Mace threw for 67 yards and rushed for 15, including a touchdown. Logan Shetterly led receivers with 47 yards.

The defense was aided by interceptions by Shetterly, Downs and Warren Page. Downs returned his pick 23 yards and Downs 15.

Next up for the Dutch is a trip to Solon. Solon is undefeated this season and is coming off a 14-7 first-round win over Iowa City Liberty. The team averages 7.1 yards per play, has 53 offensive touchdowns this season to lead Class 3A and has amassed 3,567 offensive yards this season.

Solon’s defensive numbers are much weaker, with fewer tackles for loss and turnovers than the Little Dutch.
