PELLA, Iowa— Jenny Anderson, volunteer at Hospice of Pella, is Pella Regional’s 2019 Hospice Volunteer of the Year. Jenny, along with other honored volunteers throughout Iowa, was recognized on September 20 by the Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Iowa.
Volunteers of Hospice of Pella provide companionship for patients and relief for caregivers by letting them take a break from the bedside. They help with transportation needs, including errands and rides to and from appointments. They also may help in the office and take care of the garden. Their role is instrumental in the care of patients and families in hospice care.
“Jenny faithfully comes to the Hospice of Pella office to help with many tasks. She prepares grief bags and Empty Cradle boxes, makes phone calls, organizes files and brings order to the Comfort House library, and us! Jenny tackles each request with an eye to detail, contagious enthusiasm, and a smile. She is such a blessing! We look forward to each day that Jenny works alongside us,” said Beth Loux, volunteer coordinator at Hospice of Pella.
Volunteers serve in many capacities within Hospice of Pella. Each volunteer chooses which tasks they are comfortable doing and the times that they are able to help. For information about volunteer opportunities, call 641-620-5050.
