Grant Anderson, a freshman at Pella Community High School, spent Saturday morning, Oct. 26, working on his Eagle Scout project at Big Rock Park.
Anderson, a member of Troop 373, is a friend of Community Services Director Jeanette Vaughan. He asked her for service project suggestions around the City’s parks. Vaughan suggested fixing the stairway to a secluded part of the park.
The stairway was an Eagle Scout project for Benjamin Lauritsen in 2014. He did the project in memory of David Lee Thomas. Over the years, the steps had suffered under the weather and conditions.
The City of Pella provided materials for the 2019 project, while Anderson recruited assistance. Jerry Beyer and a handful of others chipped in beginning at 8 a.m. Anderson hoped to be done by 4 p.m., but was likely done sooner, due to how much had been done by noon.
Anderson is glad to contribute to the community, and especially Big Rock, as it provides many great trails and memories for him as a Cub Scout.
