The Pella Christian Eagle volleyball team battled Class 5A competitor Indianola for five sets Tuesday night, but cold not quite overcome the challenge.
Indianola took the game in five sets. The Indians ran away with the first set, 25-8, before the Eagles turned on the offense. Pella Christian took the second set 26-24 before Indianola bounced back to win 25-19.
Undaunted, the Eagles fought to win the fourth set 26-24. Competitive spirits thrived in both teams as they went into the fifth set, with Indianola able to pull it out 17-15.
Lizzy Posthuma was 15/16 serving, with 33 assists, eight digs and two blocks. Sarah Gritters was 12/15 serving with three aces, eight kills, two digs and a block. Molly Bolt had 13 kills, eight digs and a block. Natalie Harrill was 17/17 serving with two aces and 15 digs. Anna Van Zee was 14/15 serving with two aces, 24 digs and an assist.
The Eagles are set to travel to Des Moines Christian for a triangular Thursday night. They will take part in a tournament in Bondurant on Saturday, Sept. 21.
