At Monday’s regular Knoxville City Council meeting, a site plan was approved for the new Scooter’s Drive-Through Coffee shop.

The shop will be built adjacent to Medicap Pharmacy, at the corner of Lincoln and Pleasant. Scooter’s will lease land from Medicap for a 557 square foot building. As it will be a drive-through service only, there will be no indoor service or even a walk-up window.

A study in Omaha, Neb., showed that cars were able to get through in about 30 seconds. Scooter’s will be able to accommodate nine cars in line.

In other council action, a new fire panel for the Knoxville Recreation Center was approved. The prior panel is the same one that was placed when the facility was built in 1986. It was also located near the pool.

Recently, there have been frequent false alarms at the facility. Rec Director Brandon Nemmers recommended that it not only be replaced, but moved away from the pool area. Council approved both the purchase and the relocation of the fire panel, with a cost of approximately $8,000.
