The City of Pleasantville has been awarded a $45,000 Community Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows.

The funds will be used to help cover the estimated $220,000 cost to extend the existing bike trail from the top of Cora Shadle Park down Highway 5 to Jasper Street. City Manager Joe Mrstik adds that an application has also been submitted for a REAP Grant for $75,000. If received, over half of the cost of the trail extension will be covered by grants.

If this grant is awarded, the City will seek a partnership with Peoples Bank to cover the cost and put the entire trail in at once. According to Mrstik, installation of the trail was part of Peoples’ agreement when the new bank building was constructed.
