Some believe in lucky charms such as a rabbit’s foot or a four-leaf clover. But not the Twin Cedars softball team. Their impressive season has been under the watchful eyes of Dub the Llama and Earl the Rock.
“We just take it to every game,” Brooke Roby said of Dub. The stuffed Llama is from the game Fortnite. She brought it to a game against Southeast Warren, which the team won 2-1. From then on, Dub has watched every Saber game from the top of the dugout.
Caitlyn Reed doubled down on the good luck charms by bringing a rock with her to every game. She has nicknamed it Earl.
“They’re just good luck charms,” Reed said. “They give us a lot of luck.”
Some opponents and fans do not quite understand the bond the team has formed, since early in the season, with the charms – though no one has really inquired about the carefully-positioned stuffed llama.
“We get a lot of strange looks,” Roby said. “We always put him on top of the dugout.”
The llama is the team’s spirit animal. They hope their good luck charms continue to work as they try to make it to the State Tournament.
