The Twin Cedars softball team went undefeated in the Bluegrass Conference, collecting the championship on their way to a 28-4 record as of July 3.
The Sabers are on their way to a double-header with Centerville today (July 3) before playing in a tournament in Davis County on Friday, July 5. On Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m., Twin Cedars will play host to the winner of the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union playoff game between Lamoni and Baxter. The Sabers earned a first-round bye with their impressive season.
As a team, the Sabers have scored 311 runs on 311 hits, stolen 102 bases, hit 59 doubles, 19 triples and four home runs. Out of 834 at-bats, the Sabers have struck out only 93 teams and have earned a team average of .360.
Eighth grader Rylee Dunkin is batting .500 with 48 hits on the season – including seven doubles, a triple and 18 RBI. Freshman Brook Roby is batting .458, with 10 doubles, seven triples and 26 RBI.
Freshman Grace Bailey has three of the team’s home runs, 39 RBI, nine doubles, four triples and 38 hits in total. She is batting .388.
Junior Caitlyn Reed is batting .382, with a home run, 34 hits, 15 doubles, a triple and 38 RBI. Freshman Ali Mockenhaupt is batting .422, with 38 hits, 39 RBI, eight doubles and a triple. Freshmen Jetta Sterner and Chloe Durian each have 23 hits and nearly as many RBI.
Mockenhaupt and Bailey have been aces for the Sabers all season. Bailey has a 2.06 ERA with 78 strikeouts and 112 hits allowed. Mockenhaupt has only allowed 48 hits and struck out 49 for an ERA of 2.02. Combined, they have walked 43 batters in 178 innings of work in the circle.
