Melcher-Dallas softball earns first-round bye


The Melcher-Dallas softball team has finished the regular season with a record of 25-5. The team has earned a first-round bye in the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union’s playoffs and will host the winner of Moravia vs. Moulton-Udell on Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m.

The Saints have already beaten both teams in the regular season. In 30 games, Melcher-Dallas has racked up 262 runs on 260 hits, stolen 56 bases and has a team average of .335.

Sophomore Haley Godfrey is batting .505 with 48 hits and 33 RBI. She has four of the team’s 13 home runs, 14 doubles, six triples and has only struck out four times in 95 at-bats in 2019.

Sophomore Kynser Reed is batting .456 with 41 hits, 32 RBI, seven doubles and a home run. She, too, has only struck out four times in 90 at-bats.

The home run leader for the Saints is also a sophomore, Riley Enfield. Enfield has five dingers, eight doubles, 33 hits and 24 RBI while batting .344.

Junior Angel Beaty has 30 hits, 12 doubles, a triple, 22 RBI and a .353 average. Senior Gracie Mann has 24 hits, 24 RBI, two homers and a .296 average. The lineup is very stacked with talented players of all grades, many of whom are in the double digits for hits while batting near .300.

Emilie Krpan remains the key in the circle, with a 25-4 record and a 1.22 ERA. Krpan has struck out 237 batters, issued only 37 walks and allowed only 119 hits in 166 innings. She has pitched three no-hitters this season.
