The Pleasantville High School Trojan baseball team has an 11-14 record on the season, as of June 26.
This is the team’s first year in the West Central Athletic Conference. Conference leaders include Van Meter, Des Moines Christian and Madrid all with 18 wins.
Trojan pitching has been strong, with a team ERA of 3.07. Opponents are batting .186 and Pleasantville hurlers have struck out 165 batters.
Senior Quintin Berglund has 40 K’s and a 3-3 record on the season. His ERA is 2.10 and batters are only hitting .192 against him. Fellow senior Grant Fouch has 31 K’s, closely followed by sophomore Aaron Wilkins with 30.
Freshman Jake DeJoode has 25 K’s in 20 1/3 innings worked. DeJoode has given up only 13 hits and has a 1.72 ERA.
Junior Wyatt Clark is leading the team in batting average, with .364. He has only struck out eight times in 77 at-bats, accumulated 28 hits and nine RBI. Senior Cael Lester is leading the RBI category for the Trojans, with 28 including two home runs. Lester is also perfect in stolen base attempts. Fouch leads the team in stolen bases with 11. He has 29 hits and is batting .322 on the season.
The home stretch for the Trojans’ 2019 campaign begins tonight (Friday, June 28) at I-35. The team will stay on the road to face Van Meter, Ankeny Christian and West Marshall through July 5.
Trojan fans can cheer the team on at home against Martensdale-St. Marys (July 8), Southeast Warren (July 9) and Bondurant Farrar (July 11) to close out the team’s regular season.
