Knoxville softball drops season opener


The Knoxville Panther varsity softball team dropped its season opener at home versus Newton Monday, 6-3.

Newton jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first, before adding a run in the third and two more in the sixth to wrap up the game.

For the Panthers, senior Emery Neer led the way, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two of the Knoxville runs. Junior Maddie Findley went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI. Senior Alex Griggs and sophomore Jordyn Franck each went 2-for-4, with Griggs adding an RBI. Emma Dunkin and Ashlyn Finarty each added a hit, with Dunkin driving in the third Knoxville run.

Finarty pitched a complete game, in which she struck out four, walked eight, gave up six hits and six runs.

Knoxville is set to travel to Bondurant-Ferrar Thursday, May 23, for their next contest.
