The City of Knoxville has begun to search for its next permanent fire chief, following the exit of former Chief Jim Mitchell. On Monday, Deputy Chief Cal Wyman officially joined Knoxville Fire/Rescue and is currently the acting chief.
City Manager Aaron Adams told the Tribune that the chief’s position is being advertised. Wyman has expressed interest in the job as well. Adams said the City will review applications and make a decision from there. Wyman will receive consideration.
As for Mitchell, he left to be Polk City’s first, full-time fire chief.
“We’ll miss Chief Mitchell,” Adams said. “Having a good chief is always important.”
We sat down with Wyman to learn more about him. You can read his story in the next print edition of the Marion County Tribune.
