After dropping its first three games of the season, the Knoxville varsity baseball team came back in a big way by taking a double-header from South Central Conference rival Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Saturday.
In a blowout 14-3 win in game one, Kaleb Streigle struck out six and gave up only five hits in 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Streigle helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
Kyle Ramsey and Carter Bailey each had three hits in the game. Two of Bailey’s hits were doubles. Patrick Crawford and Jacob Zuck each had a two-bagger as well. The Panthers racked up 17 hits in the game.
Game two was a nail-biter, as the Rockets were able to pull within one for a 12-11 final score. Zuck had three hits, scored three runs and had three RBI in the outing. Crawford also had three RBI on two hits, including a triple. Rylan Cox stole two bases and scored two of the Panthers’ runs.
On the mound, Bailey struck out six in five innings’ work. The Panthers are hosting Centerville tonight (Tuesday, May 29). They will be on the road at Gilbert Thursday and Albia Friday before taking the home field again Monday, June 4, against Clarke of Osceola.
