The Jasper Street reconstruction project is set to begin in 2019.
Jasper is the length of County Highway G-40 that runs through the City of Pleasantville’s limits. It is one of the largest and most expensive street construction projects the City has undertaken.
After many years of planning, the City has begun to acquire land necessary for the expanded right of way the street will require. City Manager Joe Mrstik said that the City will not purchase any more of anyone’s property than is necessary for the project.
As more details become finalized, the City is planning to hose a public meeting. No date has been set, but Mrstik does not intend to hold the meeting until costs are known.
To help pay for the project, several different grants have been sought and awarded. In all, the City believes it will receive a little over $1 million toward the project from outside entities.
This includes $250,000 from Marion County. The Board of Supervisors has approved this funding, despite earlier protests. Mrstik said, on behalf of the City, he appreciates the County’s support.
“Every little bit helps,” Mrstik said.
